Here’s my haiku for today, on the topic of The Way:
the Way of Haiku
walk along the same old paths
and find something new
It’s Haiku Friday again. For the past twenty years or so, it has been my practice to write one haiku every day. Every Friday I share a haiku here, about whatever topic I happen to choose. I invite you to write a haiku on this topic too, and share it with me and the readers of this blog. Just write it in the Comments below. The only rules are: 1) your haiku must be about the named topic; 2) you must follow the 5-7-5 syllable format; 3) no obscenities or hate (I will delete those). That’s it.

Haiku Friday Melodrama (feat. Some Religious Overtones)
“I know The Way!” said
Jesus who came to bring light
into a dark world
“Follow me and you
will be saved from the darkness.”
“I will lead the way!”
I hate when subway
trains suddenly go dark and
stop on the way home
With fresh batteries
in his flashlight Jesus showed
the way to the street
Thank God for Jesus
Hernandez who led the way
out of that tunnel
Those subway workers
certainly do earn their pay
showing us the way!
A haiku that tells a story, I love it. Especially because it has a surprise ending and made me laugh. Do these haiku just spontaneously erupt from you? Cuz’ you are really good at them.
Television is
‘chewing gum for the mind’ and
math is aerobics,
haiku is tai-chi
low-impact, but toning, still.
Who wants a fat brain?
The best part of your
Haiku Friday challenge is
the random topic.
Sometimes my haiku
leaps onto the screen, other
times it refuses,
writhing and wrestling
with me until I capture
“it” with style and wit!
Great haiku, Kim!
