Writers like to play Let’s Pretend. Here’s a fun exercise designed to change your point of view. Pretend you are a musical instrument. Write about your life as this instrument – what does a guitar do all day, or a flute, or a piano, or a cymbal? What is your body made of? What shape are you? How do your innards work? Who is playing you? How do their fingers feel on your wood or metal or strings? Do you breathe their breath and exhale something different? What kinds of music do you play best? If you are made to play music you hate, can you sabotage it? How loud are you? Are you a solo instrument or part of an orchestra? Who made you?

I sometimes share writing tips that have worked for me or my clients/students. Do you have a writing tip you’d like to share? If so, leave a comment here. You might win something! At the end of each month I’ll gather up the “Writing Tip” comments from the month and pick one at random from a drawing, and send the winner of the drawing one of my e-books: your choice of How to WOW Your Readers or You Can Be An Author, Even If You’re Not a Writer.
