Compost: The Homesick Poet

April 8th, 2008

To write poems you must have a yearning for home beyond home. All my life I have cried aloud, alone in the wilderness, "I want to go home." All my life I have followed the answering echoes and found — more wilderness.

Hi Kim - Have you read the book “Writing Towards Home”? I have a copy that I’ve enjoyed a lot. One of my favorite exercises is to describe the place you have most felt like home. I know mine is the crooked front porch on that Ravenna cottage (er, shack) I lived in right before I moved to your house. Perhaps part of our home is the wilderness.
